So, several weeks ago, I went on a week-long detox journey, the likes of which I’d never experienced before. An admitted caffeine and sugar addict, the first few days were pretty tough. But I survived. And, since a lot of you have asked about the outcome, I thought I’d give you an update.
What I missed most:
I thought it might be the sugar. Nope. Once I hit my stride, along about day 3, I found that if I kept on top of the plan, i.e. kept chopped vegetables, nuts, hearty soups and fruit on hand, the diet itself didn’t much phase me. With one exception. All the way until the very end I missed my iced black tea with Sweet ‘n’ Low.
What surprised me:
1. Turns out caffeine isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I didn’t find that, after the initial holy-crap-what-was-I-thinking?! phase, I wasn’t any more tired the rest of the week than I normally was.
2. When the end of the week came and it was time to have breakfast on a regular day I chose to have an egg on a whole grain English muffin with salsa. Yep. The same thing I would have eaten the day before. I’ve found that while I’ve reintroduced meat, milk and sugar, I certainly haven’t gone overboard the way I might have expected.
Would I do it again?
Absolutely.

And then along came Sunday…
Ah yes…and there were brownies!
Has anyone else tried a New Year’s detox?
