Does anyone else need paper and pen in the shower?

By Mary Rarick

It has less to do with my faulty memory and more to do with the fact that I have so much to remember. That’s my story.

Last week while showering I noticed that the Herbal Essences bottle, containing a quarter of an inch of shampoo, was dangerously low. And so I made a note to self to add it to my “grocery” list. Every day over the past week the same story repeated itself. To no avail. This morning, as I blew the shampoo bottle’s nose (you know the sound), I contemplated solutions for this all-too-common problem. (more…)

Happy Anniversary: I still can’t believe it’s been 19 years

By Mary Rarick

I’m not exactly sure how it happened but, to our utter astonishment, my husband and I find that today we’ve been married for 19 years. Looking at each other, it’s conceivable that we’ve been married 9 years, maybe 10. But 19? No way!

And I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

So as a most of the time happily married couple what are the Secrets to our Success? (more…)

I’m still in shock after reading about a Mississippi school that chose to cancel their prom rather than have it attended by a lesbian couple. My shock is so profound that it’s rendered me speechless.

Recipe: Pizza Sauce

By Mary Rarick

Since I love to cook our family tends to make meals from scratch. And so I have no idea why I’ve never even attempted to make pizza sauce.

Liked them on Oprah. Don’t like them on their own shows. So what changed? (more…)

Take a Bath! Please?

863385_hot_and_cold_4By: Linda Cohen

What is it about little boys and bathing?

In our family, my husband, daughter and I love to bathe. My nine-year-old son,  however,  hates the idea of taking a bath or a shower. In fact,  it is an ongoing battle. Once he is actually in the bath or shower he seems to enjoy himself. Often he’ll even stay in the tub for quite a while, but coaxing him to do this is exacerbating. (more…)

Detox: The Rest of the Story

lentil-soupBy Mary Rarick

So, several weeks ago, I went on a week-long detox journey, the likes of which I’d never experienced before. An admitted caffeine and sugar addict, the first few days were pretty tough. But I survived. And, since a lot of you have asked about the outcome, I thought I’d give you an update. (more…)

Spilling Over

By Tammy Ellingson

A New Year always brings a fresh start. Or it’s supposed to anyway. However, every year I find myself in the same situation; trying to tie up loose ends. There are always a few things that didn’t meet the holiday deadline: slippers I’ve been knitting for three years; binding on the quilt that needs stitching; ornaments that need repairing before being packed away, with the hope of being hung on the tree next year; and what I’ve come to call our Merry New Year cards – waiting patiently to be mailed to friends and family who know better than to expect our card in December.
