Need inspiration to lose weight?

It’s Spring and with summer on the way a lot of people, particularly women, are thinking about swimsuits, shorts and getting into shape. Easier said than done, right?

Goal Setting? Add a Ticker!

I like yoga. There. I said it.

As many of you know, I’m no fan of yoga. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve always aspired to have a lean yoga frame and the requisite clothing that accompany it. But the practice of yoga? The Most Civilized Conveyance Known to (Wo)man

Some of you may recall that way back in April I wrote about my intention to buy a bicycle seat, convinced that if I had a better seat, I’d ride.

Turns out I haven’t been lying to myself all these years. Since the installation of a new seat I am able to ride, pain free, for as long as I like. Well, pain free is a bit of an overstatement. The pain, banished from my buns, has taken up residence in my quads. (more…)

Thick, thin, thick, thin…

5 lbs of fat(That’s what 5lbs of fat look like.)
When I was a child, weight was not an issue. I remember eating a thick slice of bread with an even thicker layer of butter, and white sugar sprinkled on top. That was my afternoon snack, prepared by my father every now and then. I was a stick until age 13, and then I turned into a teenager with long stork legs. I was on my feet all day long, I was a swimmer, and food was a necessity.

In 1991, at the tender age of 17, I traveled to Kansas, to be a foreign exchange student. And that is when it all began. My host mother, who was morbidly obese, drove us to various fast food restaurants every few days. When she “cooked”, it was usually something out of a box. Add to that Fruit Loops and Cap’n Crunch for breakfast, and high school cafeteria junk food for lunch, and you can safely assume, that my calorie, sugar and fat intake quadrupled, and I gained a whopping (pun intended) 50lbs.
